Job Description:

EPC applications engineers (AE) are part of a world-class team designing, guiding, and evaluating leading-edge GaN FET and GaN IC-based motor drives in drones, robots, e-bikes, e-scooters, electric vehicles. The AE will work in the Italian application center as technical support for motor drive applications worldwide and main EPC applications for European customers.

The AE supports the EMEA FAE Sales and Marketing teams as second-level technical support; this includes designs in power management, motor drive, and wireless charging applications.

The AE works with EPC integrated circuits (IC) and GaN FET design engineers to define and debug new EPC devices within the target application by doing simulations and fit-for-use tests.

Tasks include generating application-specific reference designs that are sold as collateral to EPC devices to help customers and EPC FAEs in designing-in EPC products.

The AE’s skills and achievements are published in several internationally recognized peer-reviewed conferences, journals, and trade magazines.

Essential Functions:

  • Design and support reference motor drives, including instructional collateral generation,
  • Digital Controller programming. dsPic33, STm32 knowledge a plus
  • Test new GaN devices in motor drive applications and provide feedback on improvements,
  • Participate in the definition of new GaN devices,
  • Support sales and marketing teams,
  • Advise on cost reduction or high-performance techniques.
  • Work closely with other power electronic engineers and contract manufacturers, including international manufacturers,
  • Experience with layout of digital, analog, and power converter systems,
  • Worldwide customer support, but primarily in Europe,
  • Skilled at setting up experiments, data processing and document generation,
  • Practical bench experience: testing, soldering, rework, and modification of boards, mechanical assembly.
  • Intuitive in debugging hardware issues and understanding root cause failure
  • Good knowledge of how to operate advanced instruments required e.g. oscilloscope
  • Able to operate automated test equipment knowledge (e.g. GPIB, DAQ) is a plus

Job Requirements:

  • Fluent in English. Proficiency in German is a plus.
  • Experienced in the use of power electronic testing and associated laboratory equipment.
  • The AE should have the ability to communicate and work with local group as well as the other groups in EMEA and in the world.
  • Excellent communications and organizational skills.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt.
  • An excellent balance of the long-term and short-term focus is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with electronic circuits simulators such as LTSpice
  • Experience with layout capture tools, specifically Altium Designer a plus.
  • Motor control experience (high speed or robotic) is a plus

Education/Experience:

  • Master degree or Ph.D. in Electronic Engineering
  • Experience or University knowledge of power electronics systems with motor drive experience is a plus.
