Introduction:

This is an opportunity to work at the leading edge of power electronics. Efficient Power Conversion Corp. was the first to introduce and commercialize enhancement-mode gallium-nitride-on-silicon FETs, also known as eGaN® FETs, and remains the leader in enhancement mode gallium nitride-based power management devices. With the recent addition of monolithically integrated GaN ePower™ stages, EPC continues to lead with devices that have superior performance over silicon-based power devices in high-performance DC-to-DC power conversion applications and as an enabler of new applications such as wireless power transfer and LiDAR used in autonomous vehicles and robots.

We are looking for highly motivated people to identify and develop technological advantages of GaN-based semiconductors in various existing and new applications to join our team and help develop the future power technology.

Job Description:

As a principal applications engineer, you are part of a world-class team designing, guiding, and evaluating leading-edge GaN-device based DC-to-DC converters that deliver unrivaled performance. Your skills and achievements will be published at several internationally recognized peer-reviewed conferences, journals, and trade magazines.

This position requires an independent self-starter who pays attention to detail, has excellent organizational skills, has a proven track record of success, can generate new ideas, and works as part of a team. You will enjoy the support of a highly talented team who will assist your career growth and knowledge of GaN FETs and IC’s. The primary responsibility for this position is:

  • Use your exceptional talents to lead various challenging in-house and customer-based projects and interact with customers to understand their needs, goals and provide practical suggestions,
  • Utilize your scientific experience and knowledge to invent new topologies, determine root causes of challenging issues, and contribute to other projects,
  • Design, evaluate and support various leading-edge high performance, cost-effective reference DC-to-DC converters that exemplify the superior characteristics of eGaN FETs, including instructional collateral generation and design for manufacturing (DFM) reviews,
  • Participate in the definition of new GaN devices by testing new GaN devices in DC-to-DC converter applications and provide feedback on improvements,
  • Provide technical guidance and mentor team members,
  • Help establish new and efficient design procedures,
  • Support sales and marketing teams,
  • Write and publish world-class technical documents, journals, and books that explain the excellence of your work.

Experience:

  • Design of DC-to-DC switching converters and topologies, with computing and automotive systems, background a plus,
  • Familiarity with switching devices, gate drivers, and digital control is a plus
  • Experience in debugging hardware issues and understanding root cause failure,
  • Experience with layout (Altium preferred) and PCB design process of digital, analog, and power converter systems. Knowledge of IPC specifications is a plus,
  • Practical bench experience: testing and setting up experiments, data processing, and document generation, soldering and rework, modification of boards and, mechanical assembly,
  • High-frequency, digital, RF, highly resonant wireless power, and high-density design experience is a plus,
  • Publishing, seminar, tutorial, and other educational experience in English,
  • Project leadership and ownership experience with the ability to meet tight schedule deadlines.

Skills:

  • Expert in the field of Power electronics and switching converters, with in-depth knowledge of DC-to-DC switching converters and topologies,
  • Good understanding of analog circuit design, semiconductor testing, and thermal aspects of converters,
  • Proficient in design capture and analysis software: schematics, PCB layout (Altium preferred), simulations (e.g., LTSpice)
  • Good understanding of magnetic component design, operation, and use,
  • Ability to understand high-level industry trends based on discussions with customers on their requirements for the new product generation,
