Efficient Power Conversion Wins ASPENCORE’s World Electronics Achievement Award as 2020 Contributor of the Year

Efficient Power Conversion Wins ASPENCORE’s World Electronics Achievement Award as 2020 Contributor of the Year

Efficient Power Conversion Corporation (EPC), the world’s leader in enhancement-mode gallium nitride on silicon (eGaN®) power FETs and ICs, has won the Contributor of the Year award of the prestigious World Electronics Achievement Awards (WEAA) 2020 for Dr. Alex Lidow, CEO and co-founder of Efficient Power Conversion.

The WEAA scheme honors products, companies and individuals that have made outstanding contributions to the innovation and development of the electronics industry worldwide. A committee comprising of ASPENCORE global senior industry analysts and online users from Asia, the US and Europe select the winners. ASPENCORE is the largest electronics industry media and SaaS group in the world featuring media titles including EE Times and EDN.

The Committee recognized that since 1977, Dr. Lidow has contributed to increase power conversion efficiency by reducing harms to the environment and improving our standard of living. He has brought technological breakthrough to the development of existing and new applications using eGaN-based solutions, saving the world’s energy and changing our way of living. Additionally, Alex, along with his team, co-authored the first textbook for the electronics industry on gallium nitride technology - GaN Transistors for Efficient Power Conversion. This book, now in its third edition, is recognized as an encyclopedia for researchers to understand GaN device characteristics, GaN circuit design and GaN system application, with positive book reviews by Professor Li Yong Dong of Tsinghua University and Professor Kevin Chen of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

Commenting on the award win, Dr. Alex Lidow said: “On behalf of EPC team, I would like to thank Yorbe Zhang and ASPENCORE team for this World Electronics Achievement Award as Contributor of the Year 2020. The contributions that we have made to the ASPENCORE family of publications through our sharing of the development of gallium nitride technology are the result of the hard work of the whole team of EPC. We are all very honored to be recognized for the work that we love so much.”

2020 ASPENCORE Global High-Tech Executive Forum - Global CEO Summit and World Electronics Achievement Awards (WEAA) Ceremony, known as Double Summits, held its 3rd time in Shenzhen on November 5 which was joined by CEOs and decision makers from China, North America and Europe. Yorbe Zhang, Head of Asia Pacific of ASPENCORE, said, “The outbreak of COVID-19 has brought significant impact to the global electronics industry. This year’s Double Summits fully explores the development trend of the global electronics industry and the challenges and opportunities of China’s electronics industry.” The Summit’s theme was “Rethink, restructure, revitalize” – to rethink the framework for global technology collaboration; to accurately define user needs, restructure the supply chain for smoother operation, and propose suitable technology solutions; and to revitalize the electronics industry and get back on a trajectory of growth and prosperity.
