GaN Increases Efficiency, Reduces Size, Cooler Operation

USB PD quick chargers

GaN-based USB PD fast chargers can be up to 40% smaller and charge 2.5X faster than traditional silicon-based chargers. GaN devices are also more thermally efficient, meaning less energy is lost to heat and more energy goes to the device being charged.

GaN enables miniaturization, very high efficiency, and excellent thermal performance.

AC/DC power supplies, adapters, chargers

The lower switching losses of GaN enable higher switching frequencies and higher power densities compared to silicon-based designs. This allows for the use of smaller passive components which provide a design that is more compact and lighter.

Despite the small size, GaN FETs and ICs offer better thermal performance compared to silicon. Along with higher efficiency operation, this capability allows for more efficient cooling, which keeps the adapter cool and safe from heat damage.
