DC-DC Conversion

Power conversion is at the core of reducing the energy consumption of data centers. Data centers use an average of 3 kW to 5 kW per rack to power server, storage, and networking racks.

The adoption of Artificial intelligence (AI), 5G and big data, are leading to more intelligence, but higher power to power server, storage, and networking racks. Space on a server board is extremely precious, and servers – especially those designed for performing high-end computation functions such as Artificial Intelligence– are demanding more power and many systems are migrating to a 48 V distribution voltage architecture that is capable of significantly reducing power distribution losses increasing power density.

Highly efficient GaN FETs and ICs enable the new 48 V rack designs, cutting cloud data center energy bills, reducing cooling requirements, improving overall power usage efficiency (PUE).
